Tanzania is home to millions of chickens who are central to family income and food security, yet their welfare is often overlooked. Many live in poor housing, are handled roughly, and are slaughtered without consideration for pain or fear. Voices for Chickens is a pilot project with students from the Livestock Training Agency (LITA) in Arusha. Together, we will explore what chickens feel, how they are treated in everyday life, and which simple changes could make their lives kinder. This project, funded by The Pollination Project, focuses on animal welfare and empathy, not on promoting animal farming or the use of animal products.

Tanzania | Integrity School Children learn how to treat others, people and animals, by watching what happens around them. In many communities, shouting, hitting, neglect, or fear-based interactions with animals can feel normal, and children are rarely taught that emotions, safety, and respect matter across all living beings. Safe for Every Being is an educational program developed by Voices for Animal Welfare for children aged 5-12, implemented at Integrity School in Tanzania. Through simple stories, games, role-play, and classroom activities, children learn to recognize emotions, understand animal needs, identify harmful behaviors, and practice safe, peaceful responses. This program focuses on empathy, prevention, and community safety. It does not promote animal farming or the use of animal products. Instead, it helps children build lifelong habits of kindness and non-violence, toward both humans and animals.

On 13 March 2026, Voices for Animal Welfare held a pilot course at the College of African Wildlife Management, Mweka, focused on Wildlife & Nature Tourism Ethics: Responsible Safari and Mountain Guiding. The course introduced practical tools to help tourism professionals deliver high-quality experiences while protecting animals, habitats, and people. Building on this first step, we are now developing more courses to expand this work and reach more participants.
