Ethical Tourism Training for Wildlife and Nature

On 13 March 2026, Voices for Animal Welfare held a pilot course at the College of African Wildlife Management, Mweka, focused on Wildlife & Nature Tourism Ethics: Responsible Safari and Mountain Guiding. The course introduced practical tools to help tourism professionals deliver high-quality experiences while protecting animals, habitats, and people. Building on this first step, we are now developing more courses to expand this work and reach more participants.

💡WHY WE ARE DOING IT

Tourism can create unforgettable experiences, but it can also place growing pressure on wildlife and natural areas when it is not managed responsibly. Our work is based on a simple idea: people should be able to enjoy nature without harming animals, habitats, or local communities. Ethical tourism is not only about following the rules. It is about building a tourism culture that protects the very wildlife and landscapes that make these destinations valuable. The pilot workshop was created to help guides and tourism professionals better understand animal welfare, environmental impact, and professional responsibility in the field.

📊 WHAT WE ARE DOING

We have started this initiative through a pilot course delivered at Mweka, where 47 participants explored key topics such as ethical tourism, wildlife disturbance, environmental pressure, and practical guiding standards. The workshop aimed to help participants understand why ethical tourism matters, recognize signs of stress and risk, and apply better decision-making in real tourism situations. We are now developing more courses and training opportunities to continue strengthening ethical tourism practices in Tanzania and beyond. These future courses will help guides, tourism operators, students, and other stakeholders build the knowledge and skills needed to protect animals and nature while maintaining strong visitor experiences.
